Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Wincanton Logistics has made its first long-awaited sortie onto the Continent by snapping up Rokold European Transport. Rokold, with bases in Bicester and Upper Heyford, stores and distributes temperature-controlled goods in the UK and on the Continent. It operates 42 vehicles, employs eight subcontractors and has a turnover of El 2.5m.

A spokesman for Wincanton says the move is designed to strengthen the company's chilled goods services and provide its "first foothold into Europe". Wincanton has made no secret of the fact that it has been planning to expand operations over the Channel for some time.

The Somerset-based company says there will be no immediate redundancies, but warns that a "small number" are likely in the future.
