HAVING established that there 'bad been no intention to undercut the fares of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, chairman, Northern Traffic Commissioners, adjourned an application, at Kendall last week, for fares regularization by Mr. Stanley Fleming Faulkner, proprietor of Messrt. Brown's Motors and Coaches, Ambleside, Westmorland. The adjournment was for discussions between Mr. Faulkner, Ribble and other operators to prepare a common table of fares for the routes in question. It was explained that since taking control of the licensing affairs of Brown's, Mr. Faulkner had discovered that one or two fares on Lakeland trips were not in accordance with the licence. Mr. Faulkner said that he thought the differences had arisen three or four years ago during fuel rationing. His firm were charging 12s. 6d. for an eight-lakes tour, when the licence specified 12s. Ribble charged 10s. but did not include the visit to Borrowdale. It was pointed out that in some cases fares were higher than those charged by Ribble, which showed that there was no intention to undercut.

MORE BUSES TO BEAT PEAK FIFTY new buses are to be bought by Manchester Corporation to cope with the alteration of peak travel periods caused by the introduction of the shorter working week, and 40 more for normal fleet replacement. The transport committee will hold a special meeting next month to discuss the effects of the shorter working week.
