PRIVATE coach parties in the Morecambe area are being investigated. Mr. F. Williamson, chairman of the North Western Traffic Commissioners, said this at a Manchester hearing on Tuesday. Six objectors to an application by R. T. Harrison (Morecambe), Ltd., said the worst kind of competition could arise if low-priced tours for old people were operated at off-peak periods of the year. Mr. T. Booth, for Harrison, said they wished to operate two new 7-day " fantail " tours to Eastbourne and Paign ton during May, June, September and October, at an inclusive charge of flO 10s. The new tours were intended to appeal to elderly people. Their catchment area was limited to Morecambe, Lancaster and Galgate, so they could give other operators in the area only limited competition. Cross-examining, Mr. S. Moss for Florence Motors, Ltd., contended it was impossible for any north western operator to run a 7-day tour to Eastbourne for i10 10s. on an economic basis. Mr. F. Williamson, said the applicants wanted to operate new tours during a period when traffic was limited and every passenger was valuable. Therefore, he could not grant them for the four months as requested, but gave permission for three departures to be operated to Eastbourne and three to Paignton.
