Mr. T. A. Napier Leadbetter has undertaken the northern managership of the Inter-Transport Co., Ltd., and is now established at iota, North Western Street, Manchester.

Manslaughter.

Mr. Justice Horridge, on the 10th inst., passed sentence of six months imprisonment with hard labour upon a driver named George Clevett, for negligent driving with fatal results, in the Old Kent Road, on the 2nd December last, and ordered his licence to be endorsed.

£20 for a Dog.

Legal decisions concerning the accidental killing of a dog by a motor vehicle have been various of late years. A professional ratcatcher claimed 180, and recovered at Birmingham on the 17th inst.,, in an action against. the Birmingham Corporation. In this case the furious driving of the Corporation's motor ambulance was alleged in evidence.

Halley Results.

The shareholders of Halley's Industrial Motors, Ltd., will meet today (Thursday) at 7, West George Street, Glasgow, to receive the annual report and accounts. The issued capital is 270,000 in 2,1 shares, and the profit on the year's working is 226,551. The return to the shareholders is brought up to 15 per cent. for the year 1913, 28000 is put to reserve, 24512 is written off for depreciation, and certain other reservations are made, leaving a Sum of 28928 to be carried. forward. The company's shares now stand at close upon 50s. on the Glasgow Stock Exchange. 5th to 20th J French Four-wheel-drive Tractor March. 1 Trials.

Berkeley and Co., of 39, Victoria Street, Westminster, S.W., have recently sold a five-ton Hindley steam lorry to Mr. Joseph Smith, of Brigg, and a five-ton Foden steam wagon to Mr. J. Dunstan, of Calenick, Truro.

A Manchester Order.

C. T. Faulkner and Co., Ltd., of Manchester, has ordered three more 28-30 h.p. "Original" Berries, and these will be fitted with charaebancs bodies of Faulkner manufacture. This will bring up the Faulkner .fleet of " Original " Bernas to seven.

Commercar Organization.

Commeieial Cars, Ltd., whose sales department and works are at Bisect Road, Luton, has now established a London office and garage at Parkhurst Road, Holloway, situated next to the post offiec and close ' to the junction of Seven Siste.es Road and Holloway Road. The premises are known as the Holloway Garage, and a private telephone line has been installed between Holloway and Luton. The London telephone number has been altered to North 1492, and, by ringing up this number, communication can at once be obtained with any of the many departments at Luton. The ga.rage has been found essential to accommodate cars during delivery to the docks and elsewhere.

Consulting Motor Engineers: A Happy Combination.

It is with. pleasure that we are able to announce that Mr. Geo. W. Watson, MI. M ec h. E. ,

the Inspecting Engineer of the Commercial Motor Users Association, who for two years past has been in private practice as a consulting engineer, has now been joined by Mr. D. S. Kennedy, M.I.A.E., the late engineer-manager of Pickfords, Ltd Their offices are on the second floor at 83, Pall Mall, S.W. (telephone No. 5155 Regent). The partnership is a particularly happy combination of experiezace. Mr. Watson has for many years specialized on the design and construction of commercial vehicles, and was for some years the chief draughtsman of Thornyeroft's motor vehicle department, arid later chief technical assistant to the Editor of this journal ; whereas, after an apprenticeship at Messrs. Wallis and Steevens, the hulk of Mr. Kennedy's experience has been of that practical nature which is only acquired by actual service with the machines upon the roads, of which class of work he has had experience in many parts of the world. These gentlemen will have their offices next door to the R.A..C., in a building which will soon be a veritable hive of motoring activity.

Too Sudden for Birmingham.

The Birmingham Horse and Vehicle Owners Association is to .send a deputation to wait upon the Corporation and present an objection to the by-law which provides that the driver of any slow-moving vehicle should, under normal circumstances, keep his vehicle on the left or near side of the street. This association considers that, such a by-law would be a hardship.

Claim for Fire.

Mr. W. H. Morris, miller of Axminster, was sued at the Devon Assizes by the owner of a house in Lyme Regis. It was alleged that the house had been destroyed by sparks which had escaped from the defendant's steam lorry. The defendant, whose case was in the hands of Mr. E. Charles, K.C., with whom was Mr. T. H. W. Inskip, and who had received assistance and advice from Colonel R. E. Crompton, C.B., chairman of the C.M.17.A., was able successfully to withstand the, claim, and judgment was entered for him.

Ex the Dennis Works.

A healthy number of despatches is the regular weekly feature at the Dennis factory. Variety is another characteristic, and equally in respect of class of purchaser as of location of aestination. We note that five five-ton lorries have just been despa,tched to the Western India Transport Co., about. the same time that athird repeat order was completed for the Langley Mill Co-operative Society, which purchaser has another Dennis wagon. on Order. Nearer to Guildford we find that Messrs. Austin, of Kingston-On-Tharties, have bought three-tonner, with a specially-light and commodious hotly for the

e6 carriage of canned and bottled fruits. Amongst deliveries for the Midlands, we have observed a five ton lorry for Messrs. Robinson Bros., of Chesterfield. The South Metropolitan Gas Co., the Ortona, Motor Co., Ltd., Cambridge, and Maple and Co., Ltd., have recently placed contracts for Macintosh tires.
