I-IATEVER happened to Christmas? Compared to those yesteryear, the 1981 version is no vintage year. The miners and a sector of railwaymen are talking Idly about striking early in 1982. The TGWU is omising support from its members to add to the suiting chaos and economic damage.

We can almost hear Arthur Scargi II telling the peasant at the winter fuel belongs to his members and Alex tson and Sid Weighell claiming the haulage contracts. While times are difficult throughout Europe, is that iy reason for the muscle men of the trade union ovement to pile on more despair? Stoppages in these isential industries will lead to more lay-offs which, in rn, will add to the unemployment queues and arsonal misery.

The Trades Union Congress has declared itself ready take on the Government over the proposed nployment legislation. What kind of language is that Id how appropriate is TUC attitude to the economic tuation this Christmastide?

This is no time for confrontation. Co-operation would a more appropriate. During the holiday season all sides industry should reflect on our personal and collective rcumstances; if they do this, surely they must resolve at from January 4 we all need ) work like we've never done afore in order to get us all ack to prosperous days.
