WEARSIDE-BASED R Wright InternationalTransport is following the likes of Van Hee Transport by branching out into driver training.

The company has been renamed R Wright International Transport and Training and has set up its own school to woo local drivers with courses on ADR. Hiab and Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor as well as driving.

The firm hopes to retrain exforces personnel and the unemployed. while offering the road haulage modernisation-funded Safe and Fuel Efficient Drivers courses. It has received financial support and specialist advice from Social Enterprise Sunderland.

Training manager Ken Wood says: "I have noticed that driving standards have been slowly going downhill. Van Hee. on Tyneside, offers training courses so there was a need for something similar on Wearside, where we are based.

We are not aware of any other transport or training company in Sunderland that is offering this level of training and may have found a real niche in the market."

R Wright has been in business for more than 21 years, offering a range of port transport services and international night trunking for DHL/Securicor.
