Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A bureaucratic oversight which forces some hauliers to choose between breaking the law and turning away business is expected to be corrected within the next week.

The anomaly was created by the VW reduction on 44-tonners, which pay £1,475 compared with the £1,875 charged for 35-41tanners ( Chf 1-7 March).

This means that hauliers with tractors plated at 44 tonnes who want the flexibility of operating at the lower weight cannot do so legally because the DVU cannot process the duty payment at the higher rate.

The DoT and the DVIA have now promised the RHA that the problem will be solved shortly.
