COWER • If the moment has come when you have to get to grips with a computer for the first time, then help is at hand.

Training Developments (Transport) Ltd of Kelvedon, near Colchester, Essex, is repeating its Access to Information Technology courses. These are jointly sponsored by TDT and the Government's Manpower Services Commission. The course allows people to operate commercial computer systems and to learn how they work and their application in industry and commerce. Absolute beginners are welcome.

Each course comprises eight sessions, which are run on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings at TDT's training centre in Kelvedon. The fee is £24, but unemployed people are not charged.

The next computer course runs from May 3 to June 2; the June course starts on June 7 and runs through until June 30.

TANKER TOPICS • This year's Hazchem Symposium is to take place in Cleveland, one of Europe's chemical conurbations.

It is an international symposium on the safe manufacture, storage and transport of hazardous substances. The speakers come from UK, Germany, USA and Canada. The event used to be called Transchem, reflecting its high transport content. Among the transport topics this year are an address from the TGWU's Jack Ashwell concerning the problems faced by hazchem tanker drivers.

A Cleveland police speaker will talk about the enforcement of the Dangerous Goods Conveyance Regulations, and a Department of Trade official is to review the design, testing and operation of tank containers.

The symposium is organised by Cleveland Constabulary and it takes place at Middlesbrough Town Ha11 on June 2-4, 1986. It costs £130 plus VAT.
