Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AFIRE extinguisher designed for use on public service and commercial vehicles is available from The Pyrene' Co. Ltd., Great West Road, Brentford, Middx. It is a stored-pressure-type extinguisher and is called the Model PA/CB.

A moulded plastics operating head incorporates a release valve lever and this screws onto the pressed-steel shell which contains a pressurized charge of 2.2 lb. of Chlorbromomethane. This is a powerful vaporizing liquid which is highly effective against fires involving highly inflammable liquids and substances and can be safely used on electrical equipment.

The container remains sealed until actual use when the lever is depressed to break the seal and open the valve. Discharge can be stopped by releasing the lever. The mounting bracket for the extinguisher incorporates a device which -prevents the lever being depressed. When the charge has been used up, the operating head can be unscrewed from the spent

container and a new charged container fitted.

Overall height of the Pyrene PA/CB is 13.75 in. and the outside diameter is 3 in. The weight including the bracket is 5.5 lb.

Quick Drying

AN INFRA-RED unit designed to speed the drying of paint on vehicle bodywork has been added to the range of equipment made by the Process Heating Division of Claudgen Ltd., Wembley Hill Estate, Wembley, Middx.

Four infra-red lamps are fitted to the standard unit at the end of a fully adjustable radial arm and 'give a maximum heat intensity over an area 12 in. square. A wire grille protects the lamps from accidental damage. Larger units incorporating 12 lamps are also made.

ALL items in their range of accessories are described and illustrated in a new colour catalogue just issued by Wingard Ltd. of Chichester.

Variable Charger

A NEW type of 10 amp variable battery I–I charger has been produced by Kelvins Accessories Ltd., Arterial Road, Rayleigh, Essex. Batteries of all types up to 24 V. are catered for by the unit and the retail price is £29 10s.

Dials on the face of the charger can be set for charging at 6, 12, 18 or 24 V. and there are four settings for the degree of charge. Low is for slow charging, medium and high for quicker charging and a maximum charge setting can be used for battery boosting. •

Maps from Shell and B.P.

PP OAD atlases covering Great Britain IA have been published by Shell-Mex and B.P; Ltd. There are two maps, one bearing the Shell crest on its cover, the other with the B.P. crest. The atlases are otherwise identical and cost 12s. 6d. each, being available from Shell and B.P. service stations.

There are 64 pages of maps covering the whole of the country at a scale of five miles to the inch and, in addition, there is a very useful section of eight maps showing approaches to London scaled at three-quarters of a mile to the inch. The cover, made of canvas, is protected by a plastics jacket.

Metallised Filler

EiNELY GROUND powdered alu minium is incorporated in Metallised Cataloy Paste which has just been introduced by Holt Products Ltd., Vulcan Way, New Addington, Surrey. Apart from the addition of the aluminium, the filler is the same as Holt's standard Cataloy Paste, but is available only in a small pack costing 4s. 6d. retail.

It is a two-part filler—paste and liquid --and the two parts are mixed together immediately before use, setting being by a catalytic action.. The product can be filed or sanded down to a perfect surface for paint.

Range of Mirrors

EXTERIOR mirrors for passenger and .1-4 goods vehicles are now offered by S. Norrish Ltd., 220 Great Portland Street, London, W.1. They will be marketed under the name NorRisk and will be available in black or silver finish in a wide variety of shapes and fittings.

Polyurethane Rubber

A PUBLICATION describing the pro perties and uses of Preseollan polyurethane rubber has been produced by the John Bull Rubber Co. Ltd. (Mechanical Products Division), Leicester. Typical automobile applications that ire given include mounting bushes, buffers and flexible couplings.

Plastics and Boards

rIETAILS of the range of decorative laminated plastics and expanded polystyrene insulation materials are included in a new brochure published by Nevill Long and Co. (Boards) Ltd., North Hyde Wharf, Southall, Middx. The

brochure also contains details of hardboards, plywoods and blockboards and decorative boards available from the concern.

Improved Linings

TWO new brake lining materials have been introduced by the Mintex Division of British Belting and Asbestos Ltd., Cleckheaton, Yorks. S1 is a mediumto high-friction non-metallic, moulded asbestos-based material intended for heavier vehicles, whilst S2 is a highfriction material of the same type intended for light commercial vehicles. A number of advantages are claimed for the new products over lining materials previously available. These include exceptionally good wear, consistent performance over a wide temperature range, freedom from drum damage, and quietness in operation. Extended tests are said to have been carried out with both materials which confirmed these claims and in the case of the S1 material mileages of more than four times those achieved on earlier finings are said to have been recorded. Varied Municipal Vehicles

ALL types of municipal vehicles are covered in a new brochure from Vauxhall Motors Ltd., Luton, Beds, entitled "Bedford Vehicles for Public Authorities ". A selection from the wide range of special-purpose bodywork on Bedford chassis is illustrated including refuse collectors, gulley emptiers, road sweepers and security vehicles. Brief details of the Bedford chassis suitable for these applications are also given.

New Compressor

r0 versions are available of a new aiir compressor introduced by Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co. Ltd., Hanham Road, Kingswood, Bristol. One is for flange mounting the other with a bottom mounting face. Apart from the mounting positions the compressors are identical. They are known as Type 3.2 being single-cylinder units with an output of about 2.5 c.f.m. Alternative safety valves are available; one set of 160 p.s.i. the other adjustable over a wide pressure range. A leaflet describing the compressors is available from Westinghouse.
