THE methods adopted by British Road Services to fill some of the highest posts in the organization will come under fire next month when the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association holds its annual delegate conference at Blaelcpool.

The Association's Road Haulage City branch has submitted a resolution viewing with concern the number of appointments being made to senior administrative posts at B.R.S. headquarters from outside the industry. "This retards normal progressive promotion of experienced staff, fully qualified to accept responsible positions and has a frustrat ing effect on salaried staff at all levels", the resolution declares.

It instructs the union's excutive to open negotiations with B.R.S. management fur an advertising of vacancies scheme for "out-of-category staff ".

Another resolution demands that the relative costs of rail and road transport should •be placed on a more equitable basis. It talks of the " hidden " subsidies which operate in favour of road transport and suggests that railway track and installations should be taken over and financed by the State and leased to the railway authorities on a rental basis.
