PERSONAL PARS MR, Ewe R. L. FITZPAYNE has been appointed general manager of Glasgow ' Transport Department, in succession to Mr. Robert F. Smith, who retires next January.

Mn. H. P. HOUGHTON has been approved by the North-Western Regional Transport Commissioner as manager of Sub-district B5, Liverpool, in succession to Mr. H. p. Conies, who has resigned upon taking up other duties. No successor has been appointed to Mr. W. A. Makin, who resigned the managership of Subdistrict 134. The groups in this subdistrict have, we understand, been rearranged.

NOTES ON THE GOVERNMENT ROAD HAULAGE SCHEME

Invoices and Receipt Notes.—There has been a tendency lately to submit invoices with confirmation or consignment notes instead of with receipt notes. Signed receipt notes, covering all items, must accompany the invoices, otherwise it is necessary to ieturn the invoices to the carriers.

Cargo.—The general traffic carried under the scheme continues to be well maintained and, together with meat, amounted in the week ended September 4 to 155,380 tons. In. the previous week the total dealt with was 158,540 tons.

Defence .—The strength of the Defence Lines laq„s now been brought lila to 43,000 vehicles. In the week ended September 5 enrolments numbered 761, nearly half of which were in the Midtand Region.
