Boyden and CO,, Ltd., is showing amongst other MuirHill dumpers, a 3-Cubic-yd. machine equipped with a Perkins Wolf 21-litre fenir-cylinderecl oil engine; a petrol engine also is available. Features of the design include a cast-steel axle casing, with fully floating shafts, dual driving wheels with 11.25-in. by 24-in. pneumatic low-pressure tyres, and a gravity-tipping body. The low rate of fuel consumption when idling and the Wide speed range of this small " four " oil engine should be useful features on this heavy duty.

Magistrate Castigates Lorry Drivers: • A.R.O. Protest.

Transport operators in the Plymouth area are up in arms regarding a statement made by Major J. C. A. Anstice, when adjudicating as chairman at a recent sitting of the magistrates at Ivybridge. A St. Budeaux, lorry driver was charged with exceeding the 30 m.p.h. limit, and, in fining the defendant, Major Anstice is reported to have remarked: "You lorry people are the most dangerous people on the road; you don't care a damn for anybody."

A.R.O. Plymouth Sub-area has a(ldressed a letter to Major Anstice, protesting against a statement which is very misleading 'and cannot under any circumstances be substantiated."

A Dual-purpose Forestry Tractor.

Among the several machines, mainly of an agricultural nature, made by the Auto-Mower Engineering Co., Ltd., Norton St. Philip, Bath, not the least interesting is the Auto-Tractor, devised for general forestry work. Equipped with the Fordson tractor power and transmission unit, it is built for both rope and road work.

Mounted on Dunlop Trakgrip 36-in. by 6-in. tyres, it has a high ground clearance, which enhances its utility.

It is claimed to be capable of hauling 250 cubic ft. of timber at 12 m.p.h.; the weight of the machine is just over 8 tons, and its price with comprehensive equipment, is £500.

New Scottish Factory for Brockhouse.

A. factory for the manufacture of springs, windscreens and trailers is to be established at Livingstone Street, Clydebank, by J. Brockhouse and Co., Ltd., Victoria Works, Hill Top, West Bromwich. The site is six acres in extent. REGULATIONS TOO EXACTING, SAYS STIPENDIARY.

Fining a haulier, Mr. Albert 'Lees, Ashton Road East, Manchester, at Salford Police Court, on Tuesday, for failing to keep the required record, Mr. Percy Macbeth, Salford Stipendiary, commented that the Road and Rail Traffic Act is too exacting.

Was the defendant expected to make his entries while the vehicle was moving? He could not make any entry regarding the time he started work until he actually started. If he did it beforehand he was in the wrong and if he did not do it he was still in the wrong.

The defendant, who was fined 10s., said that his failure to complete the entry was an oversight.
