WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

• COMPLICATIONS arose in a " contract-carriage " case heard at Wolverhampton, when Mr. Charles Wright, of the Five Ways Inn, Cradley Heath, was charged with permitting the use of an express carriage without a road service licence. Mr. Alfred Powell, 16, Greenfield Avenue, Cradley Heath, was summoned for consenting to the use of the vehicle. • The defence was that Mr. Powell formerly ran a club, which was abandoned, and an accumulation of money. connected with it was left over. To dispose of it, it was decided to run coach trips for members. The outing which gave rise to the proceedings was advertised in Mr. Wright's licensed house, where it was stated that the fare would be Is, 6d., including refreshments. The defence maintained that none of the is. 6d. paid covered the cost of conveyance, all being disposed of in the cost of refreshments. Mr. Wright was fined £7, with £2 10s. 6d. costs, and Mr. Powell £2, with £2 10s. 6d. costs.
