• Two 38ohp Volvo FM 6x2s came under the hammer at a recent sale held by Commercial Vehicle Auctions at Doncaster. They were both white, fitted with standard sleeper cabs, and were entered by the same fleet operator.

"They were both nice trucks," says CVA managing director Chris Wright (below). "One was a 1999 model on a V-plate, while the other was a 2000 on a W-plate. "The former made £31,500, while the latter made £35,000."

A 1998 Daf 85CF 400 6x2 on Irish plates rocketed past its £12,500 reserve to sell for £17,000; and a V-reg 1999 box-bodied MercedesBenz Atego 7.5-tortner also surpassed expectations: "It did just short of im,000, although I expected it to make nearer £12,000-13,000," says Wright.

The run-up to Christmas is good news for anybody who wants to dispose of elderly tandem-axle box trailers as operators gear up for what they hope will be the holiday rush. "Even quite old ones will fetch L600 to goo," Wright reports.

The international crisis hasn't scared off buyers from Eastern Europe, or their local agents: "They're expressing a lot of interest in MANs in particular," he says.
