MONDAY

When I arrive at 9am I am greeted by staff and a computer engineer who has already cured a problem which occurred on Saturday with our new computer system. I wonder if it was the machine or the fact that I had used it, as I still cannot get used to this up-to-date technology. I've been writing cover notes by hand for 35 years!

After lunch I look over our driver training vehicle insurance scheme which is creating a great deal of interest and I prepare several quotations for potential new business.

In the evening I visit a client in Somerset who owns a tipper and we discuss his annual renewal amicably over a cup of coffee, reminiscing also; in our younger days we were both employed by the same transport company.

TUESDAY

I meet an insurance company manager in my office to discuss our c(t) truck haulage scheme which is running well, particularly in

21' Scotland. Later I meet an insurance company representative who provides us with a new quotation facility. It gives a rate for fleets Er, straight from our computer screen, which is excellent.

This evening is the only night of the week that [ do not work as =7, my daughter and I are members of our local brass band and this is practice night. My late wife's father is bandmaster so it is quite a family occasion and! also enjoy a drink with the guys from the band afterwards.

WEDNESDAY

Leave early for an appointment in London with the directors of a large transport company to whom I present a quotation for their fleet policy. They seem very pleased with the insurance package we offer and tell me to telephone or Thursday for their decision.

I had planned to go by train, but yesterday afternoon a client from Bedfordshire arranged with our office manager that I deliver a green card for one of his lorries going abroad which therefore meant driving, in order to return via his premises.

THURSDAY

I drive to Cornwall to visit a client in order to assist him with a claims problem.! plan to stay overnight and to call on another client in Devon tomorrow morning on my way back, but he contacts me to cancel this appointment as one of his drivers is off sick so he will be taking the lorry out himself. I come from a transport backgrounc and I fully understand his predicament, so I now cancel my arrangements for Thursday night in Cornwall and return home. Bang goes my night out!

During the day I had telephoned the transport company in London as arranged, but they tell me to ring back on Friday as they still have to finalise their decision.

FRIDAY

I am unexpectedly available to work in the office all morning, assisting our superb team, whom I know have had an extremely busy week. However, they seem very keen to keep me away from the new computerl !telephone the transport company in London who advise we have been shortlisted to provide their insurance, but I have to telephone again on Monday for their decision.

I spend the afternoon working on accounts which I can finish tomorrow as it is my turn to work this Saturday. My son telephones from university to say he will be home for the weekend—I'd better get some junk food in!

I finish off the week by visiting a client in Wiltshire who is putting a second lorry on the road Monday morning and requires insurance for this vehicle and liability cover for its driver. Driving home, I switch off the mobile for the first time this week. Bliss!
