Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• here are nearly 30 milkon vehicles in Britain producing some 165,000 tonnes of waste oil every year, says waste management specialist OSS. Hence its offer of advice to the UK garage industry on how to deal with the collection and disposal of waste oils.

The EEC Landfill Directive, Mich becomes effective next July, bans the disposal of liquid waste in landfills, and workshops must ensure that waste oils are collected and recycled or reprocessed by licensed waste management companies.

A revision of the 1996 Special Waste Regulations that comes into force early next year will require garages to segregate regenerable and non-regenerable waste streams. There will be tighter monitoring of this process with more paperwork and higher charges for collection and disposal.

Companies found guilty of non-compliance will face heavy penalties. OSS Group caters for high and low-volumes with two waste management services: Pay-As-You-Empty and One-Stop-Shop.

Small workshops will only pay for small streams as required; larger operations that dispose of large volumes regularly pay fixed amounts regardless of volume. The collection servicE includes a bunded "oil bank" system of storagE tanks. OSS will also advise companies on cost effective strategies for managing and disposing o their wastes.
