Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Vans and trucks from large company fleets are achieving the highest residual values, according to BRS Car Auctions at Stoke.

"British Telecom vehicles are proving particularly popular," says Howard Thornton, the company's commercial vehicle sales manager.

"Fleets from other large companies like Hotpoint, Alfred McAlpine and Evans Halshaw are also achieving high residuals because buyers perceive these vehicles to have been well serviced and maintained.

"This area of our business has grown considerably with more sales being dedicated to particular large customers like BT," he says.

But in the past four months the company has witnessed a considerable drop in the number of spot-hire companies disposing of their vehicles.

"This is due to the present economic situation with companies holding on to existing vehicles to reduce their outgoings."
