A further 19 cheeks are carried out using the pit and include, among others, steering ball joints, clutch pedal free play, U' bolt inspection and visual checks of fuel lines and exhaust system for leaks or damage.

All this is followed by roller or road tests to determine correct functioning of all systems, driveability and general per

formance.

The standard time allowed for the 6,000-mile service is 3 hours 24 minutes. for which the labour charge should not amount to more than £12. Add to this another £8 for parts, including oil, for a total of approximately £22, and one begins to wonder about the financial viability of operators attempting to do their own servicing on this class of vehicle.

However, for those operators who already ' have workshops and maintenance personnel who insist on doing-itthemselves, the following photographs may throw some light on the ins and outs (and unders) of a 6,000-mile dealer service on the Ford A-chassis.
