Two vehicles from the vast range of Daimler-Benz qualify to be included in our under-31/2-ton category. These are the front-wheel-drive L206D and L306D, which both feature the same running gear. The engine is a four-cylinder diesel, the 0M615, which produces 44kW (60bhp) at 4200rpm from a cubic capacity of 2197cc (134cuin). The gearbox is a
four-speed synchromesh unit from ZF anc the clutch is a single-dry-plate type o. 228mm (9in) diameter. The L306D available in van and chassis-cab forrr with the lower weight model available ir van form only with a variety of wheelbases.
The gvw of the L206D is 2.85 tonnes (2.8 tons) with the L306D grossing 3.5 tonnes (3.44 tons). With several options available a complete price list is impossible, but, for example, the L206D van with a 2.4m (7ft 101/2in) wheelbase costs f 1997 ex VAT, and the L306D in van form on a 2.94m (9ft Bin) wheelbase costs £2284 ex VAT.
