Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANapplication by Crosville Motor Services Ltd., Chester, to enable the company to enter the extended tours field was considered by the North Western Traffic Commissioners at Manchester last week. Mr. J. Diamond, for Crosville, stated that it wished to introduce a sevenand an eight-day tour to Bournemouth. and a sevenand an eightday tour to Great Yarmouth, all of them starting at Chester with picking-up and setting-down points at Wrexham and Sandwich. The period of operation would he April, May, September and October for the seven-day tours and June, July and August for the eight-day tours. The maximum number of vehicles to be used on any one day was two.

Crosville also wished to operate express services between Widnes and Chester, Denbigh and Chester, and Rhyl and Chester. to link up with their extended tours. The applications were opposed by 10 other coach operators.

Mr. G. A. Gray, of Chester, who supported the application, pointed out that a city of that size needed extended tour facilities. Crosville was a local operator and should be given an oPporminty of providing this service, he said.

In evidence, Mr. J. Hargreaves, a Crosville assistant traffic manager. said he understood that Salopia Saloon Coaches Ltd. would soon be applying for some additional vehicles; this suggested that there was an unsatisfied demand in the area,

Mr. J. Booth, objecting for Salopia, thought that three feeder services for the coach tours would be uneconomic,

Supporting evidence was given by more than 20 customer witnesses. The application was adjourned and is to he continued on November 25.

Applications by Batty-Holt Touring Services Ltd., Blackpool, and Happiway Tours (Manchester) Ltd. were also lodged at Manchester last week when they asked to vary licences for feeder services from Liverpool by adding picking-up points at Widnes and Runcorn.

Objecting for Crosville, Mr. Diamond submitted that there might be abstractions from the company's stage carriage services if the applications were granted. He also asked that the decision should be reserved until the Crosville application for extended tours was concluded.

The chairman of the Commissioners, Maj.-Gen. A. F. J. Elmslie, reserved his decision.
