LATEST version of the Otter to -be La produced by Guy Motors, Ltd., is the oil-engined Mark III having modern frontal styling. The exposed radiator with polished aluminium surround has been superseded by a grille which now conceals a pressurized cooling system incorporating a blqck-type radiator.

Quickly detachable for maintenance, the glle is of glass-fibre reinforced plastics with a metal mesh: The filler cap is reached through a hinged, polished light-alloy casting embodying the traditional mascot and Guy plate.

Apart from the plastics radiator grille the cab is of all-steel construction as previously, and incorporates a heater, electric windscreen wiper and vacuum-operated windscreen washer.

Either a Gardner 4LK engine developing 57 b.h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. or a Perkins P6 unit developing 83 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. is offered. Power is transmitted through an Iltin.-diameter single-plate clutch to the five-speed constant-mesh gearbox, which provides ratios of 6.61, 3.75, 2.41, 1.47 and Ito I.

and reverse 6.28 to 1. Electrically operated, the Eaton two-speed rear axle has ratios of 5.83 and 8.11 to 1. Alternative sets of ratios of 5.14 and 7.15 to 1, and 6.33 and 8.81 to I are available.

and an increase in the braking area from 384 sq. in. to 448 sq. in. This has been achieved by adopting wider brake shoes dt the front and rear. Dimensions are now 16 in. by 3 in. (instead of 16 in. by 21• in.) for the front brakes, and 151 in. by 4+ in. (in place of 16 in. by 3 in.) for the rear brakes.

Wheel rims of 6.00-20-in. T-pattern are fitted all round, permitting the use of either 12-ply or I4-ply tyres. Chassis dimensions and other details are unchanged, except that the overall width over the rear tyres is now 7 ft. 4+ in. with 8.25-20-in. tyres, and 7 ft. 51 in. with 9,00-20-in. equipment.
