What to choose...an Mil or a Cm? Both are available at 34olip and 38ohp, but only the Cummins comes in at 4o5hp. A Jacob's engine brake, worth i1,200, is standard equipment on the Caterpillar, which still costs slightly less than the Cummins. Fuel consumption figures for the two 38ohp models are similar, but the Caterpillar's lack of a Pollution Certificate can make a difference of a £1,000 a year in running costs. Cat engine parts appear to be more expensive than the Cummins equivalent, but when it comes to the cab it might be worth investigating what Daf charges. New Alphas give most makes a run for their money and the relative shortage of used models ensures good residuals.Operators seem to like the look of the cab; this is often quoted as one of the reasons for buying a Foden. Drivers find the cab well appointed but rather small—some complain of a lack of stowage space. An outside locker would be a welcome addition.
