COMMERCIAL VEHICLE AUCTIONS

"It was a wise move by Foden to take

the Daf cab" CHRIS WRIGHT

Chris Wright, managing director of Commercial Vehicle Auctions, runs sales of CVs, trailers and plant twice a month at his Doncaster site and organises auctions for customers around the country.

"With the Foden Alpha being so new we're not likely to see many at this stage," he says. "But in May we sold a basic-spec 1999 S-registered 6x4 tractive unit with the Cummins 405 engine equipped with a PTO for £47,600. I would expect slightly older examples to hold their value relatively well in the future.

"It was a wise move by Foden to take the Daf cab as we have seen more new Fodens on the road over the past 18 months than we have for a very long time," Wright adds. "The 380hp models have been the more popular choice and the 6x2 models will be in greatest demand as they become available in the used truck market.

"Cummins models are probably more acceptable to operators who are new to Fodens," he suggests, "while the Caterpillar engine is perhaps the preserve of the more traditional Fodor' operator. What was said about the Daf 85 cab holds true for the Foden Alpha—it's a bit small for the long-distance haulier but then a bigger version must appear in the pipeline soon.
