Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The family of truck driver Eddie Belfield, who was jailed in Belgium for a crime he was cleared of two years ago, is stepping up its campaign for his release following Belfield's extradition to Germany (CM 30 Sept-6 Oct).

Since the move Schield's family has received no information about his physical or mental condition.

Kent-based Belfield, who is not able to read very well, has claimed he was innocent ever since being picked up for his part in the large-scale evasion of duty.

Beifield's sister-in-law Christine Hope has already received several offers of help from truck drivers willing to collect signatures for petitions; she wants more drivers to get involved and is poised for a publicity drive, involving television, radio and newspapers.

"The Foreign Office has done nothing," says Hope. "The government is very willing to help foreign refugees but does nothing to help their own."

• If you can help with a petition contact Christine Hope on 0191 239 7995.
