Northern Bus Contracts.

Repeat orders for complete bodies for petrol buses have been received by the English Electric Co., Ltd., for delivery to Wallasey and Halifax.

The three new vehicles for Wallasey will have Leyland chassis as their basis, and will be of the double-saloon type with accommodation for 48 peasengers-21 on the lower deck and 27 in the upper saloon. An unusual feature of these vehicles is the provision of an additional staircase at the front end and an additional door on the near side under the control of the driver. These are intended to speed up the off-loading of passengers, who will board the vehicle by the rear entrance.

The five vehicles for Halifax will have A.E.C. chassis, and will provide seating accommodation for 50 passengers24' in the lower saloon and 26 in the upper saloon.

Filtration Suggestion Refuse& The watch committee of South Shields Corporation has again refused to accept the recommendation of the tramways committee that it should allow tramcars to filter against traffic signals, in the same way as traffic is permitted to filter in other boroughs. The chief constable' states that traffic filtration is now generally prohibited by the Ministry of Transport, and he considers that, in other boroughs, it will . soon be prohibited.

Nairobi Wants Refuse Collectors.

Carters (Merchants), Ltd., 37-41, New Broad Street, London, B.C., is obtaining tenders for the supply of motor vehicles and equipment for houserefuse-removal in Nairobi, Kenya, Colony, South Africa. Tenders have to be delivered to the town clerk, Nairobi, before January 16 next.

Municipal A.E.C.s at Walsall.

In the advertisement of the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., appearing in our issue dated November 18, it was inadvertently stated that A.E.C. oilengined vehicles were operated by the Walsall Co. This should have read Walsall Corporation, which operates A.E.C. Regent buses and A.E.G.English-Electric trolley-buses. Mersey Tunnel Finance Bill.

The Mersey Joint Tunnel Committee (Birkenhead Members) has considered matters relating to the Bill proposed to be promoted by Liverpool and Birkenhead corporations to deal with the financing of the tunnel scheme, etc.

It was agreed that the Birkenhead members should intimate that their approval to tho proposed Bill was for the purpose of amending the present scheme of finance by increasing the amount to be collected in tolls only by an extension of the toll period. Birkenhdad is not prepared, on present information, to agree to any clause being inserted in the Bill seeking to alter the provisions of the present Acts relating to the rate contributions of the corporations.

Ely Seeks 10 m.p.h. Limit.

Isle of Ely County Council is to apply to the Minister of Transport for an Order, under section 46 (2) of the Road Traffic Act, restricting the speed of heavy locomotives, light locomotives, motor tractors and heavy motorcars, to 10 m.p.h., between Ely Porta and the west end of High Street, Ely.
