• Infrared sensors are being used by a Cardiff-based company to develop a truck protection system.
Heat and Combustion Supplies has provided systems to museum and caravan sites for years; it says it can adapt this technology to detect intruders in trucks and trailers.
Each sensor has a range of around 7m; the battery-operated receiver is effective up to 200m from the vehicle. Anyone entering the trailer or truck is detected by the sensors and an audible signal sent to the receiver.
The system costs £140 with one sensor: each additional transmitter costs £55.
