• A working compromise has ended threats of an escalated withdrawal of services by hauliers at Dublin Port.

At least 60 hauliers halted deliveries out of stevedores Marine Terminals (MT) on 16/17 May and had threatened a three-day stoppage in the following week.

At issue was a daily 07:00hrs opening time, and delays in the time it took vehicles to be turned round at MT.

But now an agreement has been reached to open at 07:00hrs on mornings when a ship has berthed; and for all stackers to work exclusively on loading trucks for the first hour of each morning.

"There may be loading delays in the afternoon, but we will get back to them on that," says the Irish Road Haulage Association's Ciaran Dowling, who assisted the hauliers in dispute discussions.

• The other port terminals, at Coastal and Eucon, already open at 07:00hrs.
