I/ A pre-notification procedure, whereby hauliers would have to warn local authorities of their intention to dump hazardous goods in their area, was called for at last week's Pira's dangerous goods conference. John Bentley head of the waste technical unit of the Department of Environment, said that authorities should be given enough warning so that they can decide on the best place to dispose of increasingly complex waste. With the introduction of double labelling in the 1990s, other delegates hoped that more information would be supplied on hazardous goods labels.
