• The British transport and haulage industry now offers a faster and more efficient service than any other operated in Western Europe, according to the chief executive of one of this country's leading transport companies.
Mr Kenneth Cook, managing director of Midlands British Road Services, claimed that the record of British operators for delivering on time was the envy of Western Europe and indeed the whole world.
Speaking to BRS employees in Birmingham, Mr Cook hit out at any suggestion that European transport companies could operate a more efficient service than UK hauliers.
"The British transport industry is now generally regarded as being the most competent and fastest growing in the whole of Europe, whilst our prices are low in comparison to most of our European neighbours."
