Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Two fresh engine options for its 34:Four tractive unit for maximum-gcw artic operation were announced this week by Seddon Motors Ltd. The company also announced price rises of 7+ per cent for its mediumweight models and 12.2 per cent for its heavies.

At no extra cost compared with other models, the 215 bhp Cummins NHK 220 I2-litre diesel engine can now be specified in the 34:Four instead of the similar-sized Rolls-Royce Eagle 220. Tractive units powered by the Cummins will not be available before September this year, because of a backlog of orders.

The same Fuller RT610 range-change 10-speed gearbox is used with the Cummins as with the Rolls-Royce engine. The £6775 recommended retail price is the same as well.

Seddon's premium model of 34:Four tractor, powered by the Gardner 8LXB straight-eight 14-litre engine, now has the engine set at full power — 250 bhp gross. Before, the Seddon 34:Four had the Gardner 8LXB in derated form so that it could be matched to a 600 lb ft gearbox. Experience has shown, however, says Seddon, that operators now want the full power as well as the fuel economy which the Gardner 8LXB offers for its substantial extra price. Seddon can now raise the power of the eight-cylinder Gardner to its full rating, married to a bigger David Brown gearbox. The 8LXB 34:Four has a recommended retail price of £8262.

The Seddon price increases mean that a 16-ton-gvw 13 :Four has a recommended retail price of £3921, or £4188 with turbocharged engine. The Rolls-engined 34:Four 32-ton unit has a recommended price of £6775.
