AN appeal by a Consett (Co. Durham) haulier against the refusal of the Northern Licensing Authority to issue an A licence for three vehicles was allowed by the Transport Tribunal in London last Monday when they heard that the parties concerned had agreed the conditions of the licence.

The appellants were Salkeld Bros. of Rowley, Consett. Three other Consett hauliers, Siddle Cook, Ltd., Robert Whinney, Ltd., and E. Patterson (Blackhill), Ltd., were objectors.

Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw, for Salkeld Bros., said the licence sought would have authorized three vehicles to carry mainly road and building materials, agricultural produce and requisites. coal and other minerals, livestock, machinery and furniture in the Northeni.traffic area, with journeys to the London area, the Midlands. Yorkshire and Scotland.

Before the Licensing Authority it was made clear that Salkeld Bros. had been carrying steel from the Consett Iron Co.'s works. At one time they had worked as sub-contractors for Siddle Cook, Ltd. but in May. 1960, when Siddle Cook stopped working as principal contractor! for Consett Iron, Salkeld Bros. begar working direct for the company.

Mr. I. Robey, for the other hauliers said that they and the appellant compan5 had formulated a set of conditions whict satisfied them all.

Mr. Campbell Wardlaw added tha these conditions would authorize Salkelc Bros. to carry mainly materials and plan for the construction of roads and build ings, agricuittfral produce and requisites livestock, coal, machinery and furniture in the Northern traffic area, witl occasional journeys to southern Scotland the Midlands and London. If th Tribunal were prepared to accept thes conditions, then the parties would all h in agreement.

The president of the Tribunal, Si Hubert Hull, said the appeal would b allowed, subject to the agreed conditiom
