THE CONTINUING resurrection of the ERF brand saw the return of an old favourite, the Olympic cab, at this week's CV Show in Birmingham.

In its previous incarnation it was an operator favourite. selling 400 units a year. The cab, available on tractors and drawbars, is a highspec. high-roof, twin-bunk, longhaul model with Cummins 420hp and MAN 480hp engine options. On show is the version with the Cummins 10.8-litre engine and four-point cab air suspension.

The company expects the Olympic to increase sales of ERF-badged products towards the 2000, mark, taking 40% of its output. It reckons it'll appeal to owner-drivers and fleet bosses rewarding their drivers.

MAN ERF also announced that the new TGA 8x4 rigid will be arriving in the UK marketplace this autumn, replacing the F2000.

The outgoing model currently has 5% of the four-axle market with muckaway its core market. However, it aims to take 8% of the market with the new mode I.weighing in at 230kg less than the old model, and targeting the bulk tipper sector.

Fitting alternative components such as a smaller fuel tank, plastic bumpers instead of steel, and alloy wheels means it can drop unladen weight below the 'magic' nine tonnes, says the manufacturer.

Operators have a choice of four 10.5-litre D20 common-rail engines with outputs ranging from 310 to 430hp; 100kg of the weight saving has been made by switching from the D28 engine to the D20.

Customer demand for the least powerful engine will dictate whether it will be available in the UK. The model at the show has a 390hp engine, 16-speed ZF transmission with MAN ComfortShift selection, and HYD-1370 single reduction bogie.
