Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN OWNER-DRIVER is planning to stop paying for a truck he acquired 18 months ago because he claims it is jinxed.

Stephen Vose from Merseyside says the part-exchange value of his Iveco EuroStar has plummeted by more than half following a succession of breakdowns and costly repairs.

Problems began with an engine fault just two days after he began driving the then two-year-old vehicle and it was two months before he was back on the road again.

He says the gearbox. turbocharger, intercooler, thermostat, sump and gasket have all had to be replaced or repaired, costing him a total of £6,000.

"It's just a badly-made vehicle. It's disgusting the things that have gone wrong with it considering it was just out of warranty."

Vose, who trades as SJV Transport, says he has told finance company Hermes Leasing (Western) to take the truck off his hands from the end of this month (March).

"I still owe £18,300 and they said they will pursue me for the money. But I've tried part-exchanging it eight times and they've blocked it every time. Either they said the truck I'm buying is too dear or I'm not getting enough in partexchange."

David Haddon,a Hermes director, says the company has tried to help Vose. deferring payments without charging extra interest while he was unable to work.

"He wanted to go from a £20,000 to a £50.000 vehicle but, from an underwriter's standpoint, we could not support that amount of credit.

"If he wanted to part-exchange the vehicle, we were always prepared to negotiate on the shortfall." says Haddon.
