AS FORD'S evergreen Transit approaches the start of its fortieth year, it has been treated to a number of improvements, headlined by the most powerful diesel engine in its history, which was unveiled at this week's show.

The new TDci engine is a 2.4litre common-rail unit developing 135hp at 3,500 rpm and developing a whopping 375Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

The TDci engine's torque is handled by a Getrag gearbox. the first six-speeder to be fitted to a Ford commercial. A second new engine is a new 113hp rating of the 123hp TDdi unit, which is now only available with the DuraShift automated transmission.The new rating matches the 285Nm torque of the old model.
