Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mercedes-Benz dealer Enza Motors plans to open a big outlet in Manchester. "We're negotiating over a site now, for a multi-million-pound investment," says managing director Alec Brown.

Mercedes' reorganisation of its dealer network resulted in Enza relinquishing operations in Nottingham and Leicester. But it has gained large tracts of Manchester to add to its Warrington and and Stoke-on-Trent sites.

It's already set up a second Warrington location to look after used van and truck sales as Trucicworld. "We've invested irm in stock, and we've got 8o to pp° vehicles there," says

Brown. He can't say how many used CVs the operation will sell this year, but knows it's got to generate a £400,000 profit. Enza aims to sell 2,500 new Mercedes during 1999, making it one of the marque's biggest van and truck dealers in the UK.

Brown has enthusiasti cally signed up to Mercedes' Signature approved used commercials programme. "Mercedes has got to remarket its vehicles in an orderly fashion so residual values improve, and we see Signature as a valuable opportunity for us and for the manufacturer," says Brown.

He believes there will be sales opportunities with operators of all sizes, and he won't be neglecting customers who may be in the market for an approved used Sprinter. "There's a huge market among small business people in Manchester, in the clothing trade, for example, and a lot of twoyear-old Sprinters are becoming available now."

Truckworld will sell all makes together with older Mercedes which don't qualify for the Signature programme. Those on the programme are likely to be promoted under an Enza Trucicworld banner.

Actros had a tough start in the UK, but Enza is making healthy progress with new sales, says Brown,

"We've put quite a lot on the road, fuel consumption is looking pretty good, and I'm not getting a lot of warranty problems," he reports, "and Atego is going brilliantly for us."
