• A haulier was fined £120 for running without an Operator's Licence although he had applied for one four months before.

Neil Robbins of Nero Transport, Birmingham, told Solihull magistrates: "I already had one lorry which had an Operator's Licence but on this particular day it was off the road for repairs. So I had to use the 28-tonne lorry which I had recently bought, although I was still waiting for a licence."

Robbins was ordered to pay the fine plus £65 costs.
