• The German haulage association BDF has demonstrated against the failure by the Council of Transport Ministers to agree harmonisation across member states. Angry hauliers hoisted a truck into the air on a crane outside the EC's HQ in Brussels.
Pandoro's rise • P&O Group subsidiary Pandoro, and not P&O Roadtanks as reported in CM last week, has awarded its 13 drivers at Lame near Belfast £3 extra a week for the first six months of this year and £5 extra a week for the rest of 1993, representing an average rise of 2%.
Fifty limit • An experimental 50mph speed limit will be imposed on a four-lane section on the south-west sector of the M25 in 1995, to cut journey times and accidents. If it is successful the speed limit will be applied on other congested motorways.
Speeding trucks • Four in 10 artics exceed their 60mph speed limit, says a survey published by the DOT last week. But according to Vehicle Speeds in Great Britain 1992, three quarters of those speeding trucks were travelling at under 65mph.
Total cover • Next month General Accident stops new motor insurance cover for fleets of more than 25 trucks unless the operator gives it all its other insurance business. GA says larger fleets give it "very heavy losses".
