Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ifeel I must respond to the letter in Dear Sir (25 Feb-3 Mar) from Jeff Cadwallader, who complains about what he sees as inaccuracies about his company during the recent and unfortunate strike at ARC South Wales. Many of the owner-drivers involved in this dispute have worked for ARC very much longer than Mr Cadwallader and remember him when he first started with only a couple of trucks.

I do not believe it is correct for him to say that he was told to stop using his own or subcontract vehicles, he was asked not to cross the picket line. It is also ludicrous for him to suggest that these men are cushioned from the reality of competition which they are most certainly affected by it is mainly bought about by companies playing one haulier against another and the desperate fools who will haul for any rate no matter how low.

Mr Cadwallader cannot deny that he used extra vehicles to run for ARC during the dispute; seven of them had been parked up through lack of work.

Mr Cadwallader's vehement defence of ARC's rates would seem to be asking us all to believe that he is right and 60 other drivers are wrong. Mick Binns General-Secretary, National Owner Drivers Association UK
