other day I was stopped by the police and told that the trailer should have "long vehicleplates on the rear. Am I correct in thinking that such trailers need not have reflective rear markings?
AYou are quite correct. foreign trailers temporarily in the United Kingdom are exempt from he requirement to carry rear markings.
The Motor Vehicles (Rear Markings) Regulations, 1970, which introduced rear marker plates on December 1, 1970, were not clear on this point. Regulation 2 (n) exempted only "'vehicles brought into Great Britain by a person resident abroad-.
