David R. Smith has been appointed deputy transport manager of Leicester City Transport. He succeeds Leslie H. Smith, who recently became manager when John Cooper left to take up a transport post in Trinidad and Tobago. Mr.

D. R. Smith entered company transport in 1945 and became traffic assistant to Bolton Corporation in 1956: He joined Leicester in 1960 as traffic superintendent and in 1962 moved on to Bradford in the same capacity.

Highway Trailers (Great Britain) Ltd. have reorganized their sales force and R. J. HerdmanGrant has been appointed general sales manager. The following area sales managers will be responsible for their particular areas:— H. Macleod (Scotland and North), H. B. Price (North West), T. H. Heron (North East), R. Mellard (Midlands), J. G. Bishop (Eastern), H. C. Lewis (Wales and West), R. Thrush (South West) and A. Gee (South East).

Tom Hawksworth has been appointed by India Tyres Ltd. as district manager, Birmingham, in succession to E. B. Hall, who is now sales manager, Midlands. Mr. Hawksworth joined India Tyres as a sales representative in 1946.

The Automobile Association has appointed Basil Rogers as public relations manager and R. S. Campbell as chief Press officer.

Philip O'Hagan, lately of Primrose Grout) Sales Ltd., Blackburn, and formerly of Oswald Tillotson Ltd., Burnley, has rejoined the Oswald Tillotson Group as service manager at the Newcastle, Staffs depot.

The Minister of Transport has appointed W. F. M. Hunt as a member of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the East Midland area S. R. Ashton has been elected chairman of the north-western area of the North Western, Merseyside and North Wales division of the TRTA, with F. Charles as vice-chairman. In the eastern area of the London and Home Counties division, N. S. Hunt has been elected chairman, with F. D. Palmer, A. E. Prescott, G. W. Scott, W. Weldon, E. W. Hearne and M. F. Horton as vice-chairmen. In the Kent area of the latter division, T. Hampshire has been elected chairman, with E Wood as vicechairman.

Alex French, chief sanitary inspector, director of public cleansing and central transport officer for the Burgh of Falkirk, is president-elect for 1966-7 of the Institute of Public Cleansing. He will be invested as president at the Institute's 68th Annual Conference to be held at Bournemouth from June 7 to 10.

Mr. French entered the sanitary and cleansing department of Coatbridge as an apprentice in 1926 and in 1938 he became deputy sanitary and cleansing inspector at Falkirk. In 1943 he was appointed to his present post.

L. W. Lashford has been appointed group despatch and transport manager to the Bond Worth Group. Mr. Lashford was formerly office manager of Jelleyman and Sons Ltd., of Kidderminster, and transferred to Bond Worth's head office at Stourport when the company became a member of the Bond Worth Group.

Derek Hunt has been appointed general sales manager of Fram Filters Ltd., Treforest, Glamorgan. Mr. Hunt was previously with Hepworth and Grandage Ltd., of Bradford, as assistant general export sales manager.

A. J. Jackson-Mee has joined Vickers Ltd. as chief engineer, Vickers-Armstrongs Onions, Bilston, Staffs. He was previously project engineer (Land-Rover) with the Rover company.

London Transport has appointed L. C. Thuriow as principal assistant (training administration) and R. E. Harrison as principal assistant (staff). Both appointments are in the grade of principal executive assistant. Mr. Harrison joined LT in 1941 and Mr. Thurlow joined the Underground Group in 1927.

N. J. D. Whittle has been appointed traffic manager at Central SMT Co. Ltd., Motherwell, in succession to A. M. Newman. Mr. Whittle started with the company in 1955 in the traffic department. Prior to that he had spent four years in the Glasgow Corporation transport department.

C. G. M. Smith has been appointed to the lewly created post of dealer planning manager, Castro] Ltd. Mr. Smith joined Castro! in 1925. He is a representative on the council of the transport manufacturers' section of the SMMT and is vice-president of the Garage Equipment Association.

P. J. Pass, formerly director and general manager, has been appointed managing director of C. A. Norgren Ltd. and associate companies, Shipston Engineering Co. Ltd., Sundstrand Sanders Ltd. and Herbert Grange and Co. Ltd.
