Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

"Ill.1R1NG a series of site tests last I week, organized by Telehoist, Ltd., heltenham, it was proved that the mcern's new link tipping gear could rovide an appreciably higher rate of ft than that quoted in the specificaon. Operating a heavy scow-ended snip body with a load of about 14 tons, te tipping time was on some occasions nder 12 sec. The tipping angle is 70 egrees. The body is returned under ower in about 10 sec.

The gear is fitted to a Thornyeroft ig Ben six-wheeled chassis with .RN6 155 b.h.p. oil engine. The site as at Andoversford, Glos., where iloucester County Council are engaged n road widening involving the excaation and tipping of a large tonnage of sck. Tests of the dumper were antinued throughout the week.

The twin double-acting rams of the ear are of 6i-in, diameter and are seated horizontally in a sub-frame of -in. by 3-in, channel sections. A pair f short arms relays the thrust of the sms to a mechanism comprising hellranks and arms of box section, the rms forming links between the cranks nd the body underframe. The body tinges are also carried by the subrame.

According to a representative of The 'ommercial Motor, who witnessed the emonstrations, they confirmed that he link system stabilized the lifting

operation by virtue of its robust construction and the elimination of differential ram movement.

The design of the linkage is such that relatively short ram travel is required for a large tipping angle. The maximum output of the hydraulic pump is 32 g.p.m., and the capacity of the oil reservoir is 19 gallons. The pump is attached to a cradle on the chassis andis driven by a universally jointed shaft

from the power take-off of the gearbox.

A piston-type control valve, located near the reservoir, is fitted with a cab extension and enables the body to be held in any position.

Excluding the power take-off and body sub-frame, the retail price of the link gear with a tipping angle of 70 degrees is £490, whilst a gear with a 50-degree angle of tip is available for 400.
