The highways committee of the West .Riding County Council reports that Keighley Corporation is promoting a Provisional Order to authorize it to abandonor discontinue temporarily or permanently any of its tramways along the route on which it proposes to provide railless car services.

The provisions of the draft Order stipulate that the Minister of Transport may order the removal of the rails of the tramway and the restoration of the portion of the road upon which such rails

were laid sto as good a condition as that in which it was formerly.

Negotiations have taken place between the corporation and the county council concerning the works to be carried out in restoring the roads. In addition to the liability of the corporation as owners of the tramway undertaking, which it puts at £7,000, there is the question of the adaptation of the roads for the purpose of the new trolley-bus traffic.

It is intended to reconstruct the road margins outside the tramway track, the

estimated cost being £22,695,. making

a total expenditure of £29,695. Towards this sum the corporation has offered £2,500, in addition to the £7,000 already mentioned, and it is anticipated that the Ministry of Transport will contribute 50 per cent, of the cost Of reconstructing the margins, leaving a net expenditure by the county council of £8,848. The committee recommends acceptance of the corporation's offer to contribute £9,500 s-• that the county couucil may proceed with the work.
