Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The courts of this land have made a really good ruling, Anthony Biker deserved everything he got (CM 28 May-3 June). I hope he serves at least six of the nine months' sentence he was given for falsifying tachograph charts.

While most hauliers are paying their road tax, obeying the drivers' hours regulations and maintaining the vehicles to the required standards, there are always a few who flout the law. They should be found and reported to the authorities, who should follow the lead of Teeside Crown Court.

If more illegal hauliers were put out of business then jobs could be costed at a more realistic level and fewer haulage businesses would fail.

So, if all you legal hauliers want to stay in business, I say report the tax evader, the fly-tipper, and the dangerous driver who goes over the allocated time. And let's get the badly maintained vehicles off the road too. This is your livelihood — you should be proud of being a haulier.

Mrs J Coping Thatcham, Berks.
