Leyland in Rio
LEYLAND BUS has shown a complete vehicle and a chassis at the International Public Transport Congress in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The exhibits comprise an ECW-bodied left-hand-drive Olympian double-decker powered by a Leyland TL11H engine driving through a Hydracyclic gearbox. The bus exhibited has recently been used as a demonstrator in Portugal.
The chassis on display was a left-hand-drive Tiger 218 coach suitable for 11m bus bodywork. The chassis is one of two destined for Uruguayan co-operative bus and coach operator Cutsa and is to be bodied by Uruguayan body-builder CVTSCA. The Tiger chassis was officially handed over during the congress.
Leyland has also launched the Tiger in New Zealand and is following this with a launch in Australia (where it markets buses jointly with Hino) and other markets.
AN EXPRESS coach service linking Aberdeen, Elgin and Inverness was launched on Monday by the Scottish Bus Group.
There will be five journeys a day in either direction, each taking just over three hours. On Sundays there will be two journeys in either direction, specially designed to allow afternoon hospital visiting in Aberdeen. There are through connections with the Northern Scottish overnight AberdeenLondon service.
