They take up their new appointments on July 1, having spent their entire careers in Northern Ireland transport— first with the Northern Ireland Road Transport Board, then with its successor, Ulster Transport Authority, and finally NIC which they joined when it was formed to take over the UTA freight operations.

age and distribution manager of Lever Brothers Ltd at Port Sunlight, is the new traffic manager of UM L Ltd, the Unilever services company in Wirral. In his new capacity he has charge of various road and water transport operations, including the management of the Unilever-owned Bromborough Dock. Mr Coward succeeds F. J. Blair, who has retired after more than 47 years' service to Unilever companies. Mr Coward spent two years at the LSE before joining Unilever in 1950 as a transport trainee. This was followed by two years with Unilever /transport division, and by transfer to Lever Brothers at Port Sunlight. Subsequently, he became manager in charge road transport and locomotives, then traffic manager, A. R. Blake, 47, commercial manager of Robert Wynn and Sons Ltd, Newport, Mon, has been appointed director and heavy haulage manager of the company as from July 1. Mr Blake joined Robert Wynn in 1947.

Walter G. Hunniball has been appointed deputy general manager of Ribble Motor Services. Mr Hunniball was previously chief accountant and assistant to the general manager.

Paul G. Whick, 23, has been appointed area transport manager of Frigoscandia Ltd for the company's King's Lynn and Doncaster depots. Mr Whick has latterly been assistant manager of SGH (International Freight) Ltd. The King's Lynn and Doncaster transport superintendents will continue to deal with depot day-to-day activities.

Aid W. G. E. Dyer has been elected chairman of Nottingham's transportation committee.

Obituary

We record with regret the deaths of Major Frank Sandford Eastwood, Thomas Pi nnington, and Tom Powell.

IVIaj Eastwood, 75, retired in 1965 after nearly 27 years as Yorkshire Licensing Authority and chairman .of the Traffic Commissioners. In the First World War, Maj. Eastwood saw service at Gallipoli and in Bulgaria. He was appointed Yorkshire LA on January 2 1939 and during the Second World War was also Regional Transport Commissioner for the North East: he became a CBE in 1951 and retired on his 70th birthday, December 11965. Mr Pinnington, 50, was proprietor of coach operator S. M. Pinnington and Son, Crook, Co Durham.

Mr Powell, 64, was a pioneer of four-wheel drive and founded the firm of Universal Power Drives Ltd in 1933 which has since been renamed Unipower Ltd.
