• Delegates attending Commercial Motor's Fleet Management Conference at the Royal Lancaster Hotel on Thursday, September 16 will qualify for grant from the RTITB at the one-day rate appropriate to the grade of delegate attending. This has been made clear by the Training Board after its examination of the conference programme; the ruling applies, of course, to firms within scope of the Board.

Bookings are coming in quickly— there are now 200 seats taken— and transport executives who wish to attend are advised to send their applications on the form provided on this page.

The session devoted to labour relations is expected to prove particularly lively and topical. Three speakers will give their views and will then form a discussion panel, with delegates invited to put their views and questions. On the platform will be Mr J. D. Mather, assistant managing director of British Road Services Ltd (and until recently staff director), Mr Alex Kitson, general secretary of the SCMU, and Dr E. J. Harnley, a lecturer at Loughborough University who has made a special study of people's needs in their working environment.

The opening paper, by Mr R. H. Grimsley, from Birmingham's Aston University, will take a hard look at 'fleet financial control through budgets, while the chief engineer of Rolls-Royce Diesel Division, Mr R. A. Whiteside, will be speaking on future trends in heavy commercial vehicles, especially in power and performance, as a result of new and impending legislation.

A session in the morning will be devoted to vehicle testing: a special slide presentation of a CM longdistance road test of a heavy artic, followed by a chance for delegates to say what they would like to see in truck testing.

In response to requests from last year's conference delegates there will be a presentation on the filling and emptying of containers; this will be based on ICI's considerable experience in this field and will be illustrated by slides and a short film. The speaker is Mr D. A. B. Crawford of ICI's central distribution department.

Once again Lord Chesham will be chairman for the event, and this year our conference will be opened by the Minister for Transport Industries, Mr John Peyton.

The conference fee—including documents, lunch, morning coffee, cocktails and afternoon tea—is £10.50 per delegate. Please address your bookings to IPC Business and Industrial Training Ltd., as shown in the panel.
