Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ecordBy P. A. C. BROCKINGTON LDOY LEICESTER ROUND ARECORD number of vehicles took part in the Leicester contest at Melton Airfield Farm, near Melton Mowbray, and it is a safe guess that the number of spectators was also a record. The vehicle increaSe from 130 last year to 145 on Sunday may be attributed to the success of the organizers and marshals in streamlining the event, whilst the free coach service from Melton Mowbray laid on by Hoveringharn Gravels Ltd. combined with near perfect weather (and an abundance of free programmes) to attract additional spectators.

It might be unkind to the hard-working stewards to suggest that had it not been for the favourable weather, the restlessness of the drivers and spectators, created by an hours' wait for results after the final test would have grown into resentment. Apart from an early hold up on the Width-judging test on account of misplaced pylons, the manoeuvring .tests were conducted with clockwork precision and everyone agreed that the Police did it grand job of work in supervising the highway code and route tests, and in controlling the spectators. Their obvious interest in the tests was a stimulus to spectator appeal.

Although the winner of Class H, R. lviaund (Vic Hallam Ltd.) lost a total of 224 points at the wheel of an AEC:York single-axle articulated outfit, built to the new C. and U. RegulatiOns (the outfit had _an overall length of 424 ft.), touches in the width-judging and reversing into the bay tests cost him 115 and 91 points, respectively: with a little luck the points in both cases would have been something like his penalty of seven in the kerb-parking test, Class D winner, B. James (Schweppes Ltd.) competed against 46 entrants and was the overall winner on index of per-' formance. Driving a Bedford platform vehicle he lost 79 points comparing favourably with the penalties of drivers in Classes A,' B and C. Third man in Class 0, A. Smart, who drove a Bedford van for Clarkes Boxes Ltd., lost 113 points and won 'the cup for the D class

driver of a type of vehicle not driven by the winner. Smart's colleague, B. Hornidee, gave an immaculate performance at the wheel of a Karrier articulated van'in Class 1712) which he won with the loss of 69 points, the lowest penalty of

the day. Second on points, A. Dixon (Wolsey Ltd.) lost only 77 points when he won Class Eli) at the wheel of a Ford, and was one of the winning team.

Prizes were awarded by the Chief Constable of Leicestershire and Rutland.
