front needs to be taken on opposing the issue of giving existing Class 2/3 drivers Class I (C+E)
licences from January 1997.
We believe that not only would such a move take away the acknowledgement of the skills needed to drive articulated vehicles safely, but it would also endanger the public as it allows incorrectly trained drivers on the UK's major and rural roads.
All we are asking for is a collective concern about driving standards and public safety.
The Freight Transport and Road I laulage Associations, United Road Transport Union, Transport & General Workers Union, Brake and driver training associations should all work together to stop this insane idea before it becomes a reality.

Credit where its due
Jam writing with regard to the article on race relations in the haulage industry (CM 4-10 July). I was, obviously, very pleased that you centred on our company and I was only too happy to help with the article.
However, I must say that I was slightly disappointed with the choice of photograph to accompany the piece, which did not show the full truck nor the company logo. As you must know, all hauliers like to see their company logo brought to the forefront so that the public and customers alike may associate the company with the personnel involved.
Again, many thanks for the opportunity for involvement by my company.
