• The House of Lords was due yesterday (Wednesday) to rule on whether local authorities have the right to force operators in London to fit hush kits to their trucks.
The London Boroughs Transport Committee lost the last round in 1990 in its fight to keep Condition 11 of the London Lorry Ban. The condition requires hauliers to install the equipment in order to get a permit. Earlier this month, the Lords reserved judgment on the case, which is likely to move on to the European courts regardless of the decision (CM 4-10 July).
