Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Seddon Atkinson will be increasing the appeal of its Strato heavy tractive unit range in the last quarter of the year by offering two more powerful Perkins Tx Eagle engines and factory-fitted drive axle air suspension.

From October all Strata premium and TC tractors can be specified with either the 279 or 298kW (375 and 400hp) airto-air charge-cooled Perkins Tx engine. This will be the first time that the Oldham-based truck maker has fitted a Tx of more than the current 242kW (325hp) power rating in the Strato.

The Tx375 has a maximum torque of 1,659Nm (1,224Ibft) while the Tx400 has a peak torque rating of 1,810Nni (1,3351bft) at 1,050rpm.

The 12.17-litre Tx will be coupled to either the Eaton Twin Splitter or Fuller Roadranger boxes and sold as a lighter alternative to the 14-litre Cummins Super E engine already fitted in the Strato and rated at 238, 272 and 347kW (320, 365 and 465hp), However, Seddon Atkinson is expected to be taking a decision shortly on whether it will adopt Cummins' latest Super E410 engine which has a slightly higher torque rating than the Tx400 of 1,817Nm (1,3401bft).

Perkins has been increasing the penetration of its Tx engine at ERF, Foden and Seddon Atkinson since its launch in 1989. ERF has already confirmed that it will be fitting the Tx400 although Foden has yet to make a decision on whether it will fit the top-of-the-range version.

The factory-fitted Strato drive axle air suspension will vary according to the chassis configuration. Two-axle tractors will be fitted initially with a twobag system; 6x2s will have a four-bag version. A four-bag 4x2 system is expected to follow.

The final choice of supplier and prices have yet to be revealed but Seddon says it will be using a different design to the two-bag system already fitted on the Pegaso Troner,
